Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy explains how Vakya (“Vakya”, “we”, “us”, or “our”) collects, uses, and protects your information when you use the Vakya mobile application and related services (the “Service”).
Vakya is currently operated by an individual based in Nagpur, Maharashtra, India. By using the Service, you agree to the practices described in this policy. If you have any questions, contact us at hello@getvakya.com.
1. Who this policy applies to
This policy applies to everyone who uses the Vakya app or signs in to a Vakya account.
The Service is intended for users who are at least 16 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 16. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.
2. Information we collect
We collect only the information needed to provide and improve the Service.
Information you provide when you sign in: When you sign in with Google, we receive your name and email address from your Google account. We do not receive your Google password.
Information you choose to add (optional): You may optionally provide your phone number, country, state, and city in your account settings. These are not required to use the Service.
Information created automatically:
- The date your account was created
- The date your free trial began
- Basic account status information needed to operate your account
Information we may collect in the future: As the Service grows, we may collect learning-related information such as your progress through lessons, practice results, and diagnostic outcomes, to personalise your learning. If we begin collecting such information, we will update this policy.
We do not collect payment or card information through the app.
3. How we use your information
We use your information to:
- Create and manage your account
- Provide the Service and your free trial
- Personalise your experience
- Send important service-related emails, such as a welcome email, a reminder before your free trial ends, and a confirmation when you delete your account
- Respond to your questions and provide support
- Maintain the security and integrity of the Service
- Comply with applicable laws
We send marketing or promotional emails only if you have given consent to receive them, and you can withdraw that consent at any time (see Section 7).
4. Legal basis and your consent
Under India’s Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 (the “DPDP Act”), we process your personal data on the basis of the consent you provide when you create an account and use the Service, and where necessary to provide the Service you have requested.
You may withdraw your consent at any time by deleting your account (see Section 8). Withdrawing consent does not affect processing that took place before withdrawal.
5. How your information is stored and who processes it
To run the Service, we use trusted third-party providers who process your information on our behalf. We share only what is necessary for each provider to perform its function.
- Supabase — provides our database and authentication infrastructure. Your account information is stored on Supabase’s servers, hosted in the Mumbai, India region (ap-south-1). See supabase.com/privacy.
- Google — provides the Sign-in with Google service used to log you in. See policies.google.com/privacy.
- Resend — sends the emails described in this policy, and to do so processes your name and email address. See resend.com/legal/privacy-policy.
These providers are bound by their own privacy and security obligations. We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with advertisers or data brokers.
6. Data retention
We keep your personal information for as long as your account is active.
When you delete your account, your account information is permanently deleted from our systems. Some information may remain in routine backups for a limited period before those backups are overwritten, and we may retain limited information where required to comply with legal obligations.
7. Your rights
Under the DPDP Act and applicable law, you have the right to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you
- Correct information that is inaccurate or incomplete (you can edit much of this directly in your account settings)
- Delete your account and associated personal information
- Withdraw consent to processing, including consent to marketing emails
- Raise a grievance about how your information is handled
To exercise any of these rights, use the in-app options where available, or contact us at hello@getvakya.com. We will respond within a reasonable time and in accordance with applicable law.
8. Deleting your account
You can permanently delete your account at any time from within the app, under Account → Delete account. This permanently removes your profile and associated personal data from our active systems. This action cannot be undone.
9. Data security
We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your information, including using established infrastructure providers and restricting access to personal data. However, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
10. International users
The Service is operated from India and our infrastructure is primarily hosted in India. If you access the Service from outside India, you understand that your information will be processed in India and in the regions where our service providers operate.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “Last updated” date at the top of this page. Significant changes may also be communicated through the Service. Your continued use of the Service after changes take effect means you accept the revised policy.
